This is a nicely done video from PureDIGITALMaui (pdmaui.com) who followed Ekolu Kalama as he competed in the 2010 Molokai to Oahu stand up paddle race. Ekolu Kalama placed 2nd in this years race.

The 2010 Australian Sup title was awarded after SUP surfing competition was held August 22-25th as a part of the Australian Surf Festival in Port Macquarie, New South Wales. Jackson Close won first place with Sinclair Black 2nd, Keahi de Aboitz 3rd and Beau Nixon 4th.

This video from Casso0611 (Andrew Cassidy, who also competed in the event), shows some of the men’s finals including scores for their ride.

The next leg on the Standup World Tour starts September 4th in Brazil. The 2010 Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest in Brazil will be the fourth stop on the Standup World Tour.

The Standup World Tour is organized by The Waterman League and the Brazil event is presented by the Brazilian Association of Stand Up Paddling and the apparel brand Mormaii. The Mormaii Ibiraquera Wave Contest will run from the 4th – 12th September at Ibiraquera, located 80kms south of the city of Florianopolis, and the event is made up of an international Trials and Main event, the same as previous Stand Up World Tour events.

The Hawaiian Waterman Hall of Fame has been established in Waikiki, Honolulu with nine initial inductees. Who are the nine recent inaugural inductees to the Hawaii Waterman Hall of  Fame? Let’s take a look at each of these waterman and so we can better appreciate their contributions to surf culture.

Duke Kahanamoku – Known as the “Father of Modern Surfing”, Duke Kahanmoku was a world record holding Olympic gold medalist and for more than a decade was the fastest swimmer in the world. As he toured the world with swimming exhibitions he also spread the sport of surfing by introducing surfing to the east coast of America,to Australia and New Zealand and was instrumental in popularizing surfing in California and Hawaii.
