This is a nicely done video from PureDIGITALMaui (pdmaui.com) who followed Ekolu Kalama as he competed in the 2010 Molokai to Oahu stand up paddle race. Ekolu Kalama placed 2nd in this years race.

Jever SUPThe second annual Jever SUP World Cup race series was held August 27-29th in Hamburg, Germany. The event offered 15,000 euros (19,000 dollars) prize money and drew competitors from around the world. The event featured a series of amateur races and for the pros a 2K sprint distance race and a 10K long distance race.

If you are wanting to get into competitive long distance stand up paddle boarding, one of the world’s best paddle boarders has a training plan for you.

Conner Baxter, winner of the Maui to Molokai 27 mile Mormaii Molokai Pailolo Express Race and 4th place finisher in the 32 mile Molokai to Oahu race shares shares his 12 week marathon paddle board training plan on the Starboard Sup blog.

His 12 week training program is based on elite marathon runners training schemes which are a little bit different than many sport training programs and calls for first getting as fit as you can and then getting as efficient as you can. It is working for 15 year old Conner Baxter and it just might work for you too.

The fourth annual Tahoe Nalu stand up paddle race was held on August 21 and 22nd at King’s Beach on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The race has grown every year and has become a don’t miss SUP event.  This year over 600 people participated in the activities.

Conditions were not the normal clear beautiful flat water that Lake Tahoe is known for, but instead, high winds and lots of chop made for challenging conditions for the competitors.

The 14′ Elite race was a 6 mile course of four 1.5 mile laps. Read More→
