Jim Terrell of Quickblade paddles has come up with a new stand up paddle racing stroke which is causing waves in the SUP racing world. Jime Terrell and Dan Gavare used the new stroke called the Plung stroke to win first and second place in a sprint race at The Olympic Training Center during the Silver Regatta  race in April.

The new stroke technique allowed them to win over racers known to be faster who were using conventional paddle strokes. The new paddle technique is done in the surf stance with one foot forward and a pluge forward to extend the reach of the paddle stroke. The Plunge stroke allows for paddling on one side only and is said to save time which is wasted in crossing over thus keeping the paddle in the water longer. Although the stroke works well for sprints it is unknown how it would fare in more typical longer SUP races.

for more information about this new paddle stroke check out the article on SUP Connect.
